ADULT EDITION
Things to know about Summer Bible Reading Challenge:
- This challenge is open to all people of all ages. We are reading through the Proverbs & the Book of Psalms this summer.
- The purpose of this challenge is to encourage daily reading of God's word.
- This means simply opening your physical or electronic bible to begin reading. So, join us to "READ YOUR BIBLE"!!
- This is not about perfectly checking boxes off of a list, turning in your summary, or competing with others.
- It is about working towards making the reading of God's word a daily discipline, having some little fun learning, and engaging with others on the scriptures you're reading.
- Those who choose to participate will receive a prize at the end!
How to be successful during this challenge:
1. Make reading a habit
- Make the decision that you will read daily
- Plan what time of day you will read.
- Don’t let anything take the place of this time on your calendar.
2. Reflect on what you’re reading in Scripture
- After you have each read the passage for the day, consider a few of the following questions about the passage:
- Something that surprises me in this passage of Scripture is:
- What question(s) do I have about this passage?
- What does this passage say about God?
- What does this passage say about humankind?
- Do these verses challenge you to change any attitude, actions, or words?
- What does this say about loving God?
- What does this say about loving others?
3. Summarize what you have read for the day in a short paragraph
- Write a paragraph of your understanding of what you read for the day
- Submit your reading summaries weekly in-person or via email at connect@rwccinc.org
- First summary is due June 11th for June 1st thru June 10th
- Second summary is due June 18th for June 11th thru June 17th
- And so forth with final summary due by August 6th.
TEENS, YOUTH & KIDS EDITION
- Set aside 10-minutes for your child(ren) to read their Bible a mininum of 3 times weekly (recommended). If you may need to read with them depending on their age. Do your best we know life gets busy.
- Provide a quiet space with limited distractions.
- Get an age appropriate, easy to read translation of the Bible. For example: NIV, NLT or ESV
- Encourage your child to write or draw in a journal answering: “What is happening” & “What is God telling me”?
How to qualify for a PRIZE:
By August 6th turn in your reading list with boxes checked for scriptures read and complete the "What did you learn" page.
